Ransomware is  type of malicious software virus designed to block user to access computer system until a sum of money is paid. Ransomware virus encrypt your data and important files and ask you for money to unlock it. This virus usually locks computers, encrypts the data on it and prevents software and apps from running.

What is WannaCry Ransomware:

WannaCry Ransomware  also known as WanaCrypt0r 2.0, WannaCry and WCry type of trojan virus which encrypts the data, locks out the system, and demands a ransom to release it.

Mostly It was circulated  phishing email, with an infected attachment. When user click on attachment used a worm to spread immediately to all the computers connected on same network. This virus is using a hacking method which was developed by National Security Agency  as a cyberweapon.

WannaCry  attack is doing complete encryption of users’ data,  for unlocking the system  files asking for Ransom of around $300 in bitcoin.

Ransom amount will increases at intervals until it final warning fo wipe out the data if Ransom is not paid within in time given. This ransomware virus is undetectable by security systems until employees open it, after which, it is too late.

How to protect Yourself from WannaCry Ransomware:

User should install all available security updates immediately. Windows users with Systems that run on Windows XP, Windows 8, or Windows Server 2003 should immediately install this security update released on Friday by Microsoft.

The latest builds of Windows come with the Windows Defender, an antivirus software, in-built. XP users, on the other hand, should ideally upgrade to a higher version, the most recent one being Windows 10.

Never click links or downloading attachments in emails from any sender one does not recognize, and also to block pop-ups and ads on seemingly suspicious sites.  

For Windows 7 users, Microsoft’s Windows Security Essentials software could provide them the necessary protection. If your computer has already been affected, try downloading an antivirus on an uninfected system, and transfer it to your system using a CD-Rom or a USB stick.
